SAL ISLAND
The charming island of Sal is an amazing destination with miles of golden sands and warm turquoise waters it is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Sal is Portuguese for salt; the island has a long history with salt mining although not as big as it was, and these days is main tourist attractions. The island feels unspoilt by tourism making it a desirable destination. The islanders work together with the environment and safeguard the loggerhead turtles famous on the island.
Santa Maria sandy beach stretches as far as the eye can see, a spot of sunbathing and enjoy watching the surfers ride the waves as they crash on the shore. Currency
The local currency is the Cape Verdean Escudo (CVE).
Euros are accepted at some tourist establishments, particularly in resort areas, but acceptance varies. Change may be given in local currency, so we recommend checking the exchange rate before making purchases.
Cash is useful for smaller shops, local markets and gratuities. Credit and debit cards are accepted at some hotels, restaurants and larger establishments, although acceptance can vary. ATMs are available in the main tourist areas.

British citizens travelling on a full British citizen passport can generally visit Cape Verde for tourism for up to 30 days without a visa.

Important Information
Time difference: Cape Verde operates on Cape Verde Time (CVT), which is one hour behind the UK during winter and two hours behind during British Summer Time.
Electricity is 220V, and a universal travel adaptor is recommended. A reasonable level of fitness and mobility is required, as this holiday includes walking, sightseeing, travel and occasional early starts.

When visiting villages, markets or religious sites, shoulders and knees should be covered out of respect for local customs.
Swimwear should be reserved for the beach and pool areas. We also recommend bringing a light jumper for cooler evenings, a lightweight waterproof jacket during the green season, a sun hat and high-factor sunscreen.
