Nestled between Europe and North Africa, Malta experiences a Mediterranean climate, with average temperatures remaining 23°C during the day, making it a perfect destination to visit whatever the month.

For enjoyable temperatures that aren’t too overbearing GoSingles recommends visiting in Spring, this time of year is popular with coastal walkers and sightseers as rainfall is low and the climate is comfortable, yet is much quieter with holiday makers.

Summer brings endless hours of wall to wall sunshine, with little to no rainfall and the mercury rising to 31°C, therefore it’s the perfect time to visit if you are looking for consistent weather.

The start of autumn sees temperatures remain high, before gradually decreasing. Owing to the season bringing rain, the landscape is revitalised creating lush, green countryside, ideal for hikers looking to take in the scenery.  Don’t be put off by the thought of rain, as autumn still brings an average of eight hours of sunshine a day.

Winters remain pleasant and mild, making it the perfect winter escape with temperatures often hitting the high teens.

ISLAND OF GOZO

Gozo is not to be missed, known as Malta’s sister island lying only 8km away, this idyllic day trip will leave a lasting impression. Visitors are drawn to the island's picturesque coastline of sheltered beaches, whilst the crystal-clear turquoise waters are ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and scuba diving. The countryside also has many scenic trails, ranging from gentle hikes to invigorating treks.

BLUE GROTTO

Known as one of Malta's jewels, the Blue Grotto, with its dazzling turquoise sea is sure to leave a striking impression. Take a boat ride around the caves and grottoes, where you can appreciate the luminescent corals and glowing water.

MDINA

Mdina is one of the most visited places in Malta, recognised internationally as an important UNESCO World Heritage Site, because of how unique it is. Named the ‘silent city’ this ancient fortress sits proud, on top of a hill overlooking Malta.

SCUBA DIVING

An underwater world awaits you in Malta, with the island renown for many memorable dive sites. Its caves, reefs and wrecks are reached from either the shore or by boat. One of Malta's most popular dive sites is the Blue Hole, located on the west coast of Gozo.

CULTURE

Maltese people are hospitable and welcoming, yet notorious for being a little more reserved then their Mediterranean neighbours. Tourism plays a huge part in their income, so they will always go out of their way to make your stay a special one, whilst having a friendly and generous demeanour.

The people of Malta live life to the fullest by enjoying and celebrating it as much as possible. It comes as no surprise that the Maltese enjoy a healthy nightlife, with the island heavily peppered with night clubs, trendy wine bars and lively restaurants.

ETIQUETTE

Malta has a strong Roman Catholic heritage, therefore Maltese society remains largely conservative, so ensure you are respectful when visiting. Clothing should always cover your shoulders and avoid wearing shorts when away from the beach, when visiting religious sites and churches dress with the correct attire.

Conversations can seem somewhat heated, don’t be put off by this, Maltese tend to talk much louder and more passionately than other parts of Europe, so what may sound like shouting or the start of an argument, is most likely a normal conversation, so don’t be alarmed.

Tipping: Tipping in Malta is customary, at restaurants expect to tip between 5-10%. However if a service charge has already been included in the bill, a tip is not necessary. It isn’t expected to tip when ordering drinks at the bar, so don’t feel obliged.
